Brian Gutiérrez, PhD, MS, BCBA

Bio

I am Dr. Brian Gutiérrez, a Registered Psychological Associate and Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) with a deep commitment to supporting individuals and families through evidence-based therapeutic approaches. My journey in psychology is rooted in a personal passion for healing, disability advocacy, and a professional dedication to culturally sensitive care. Fluent in both English and Spanish, I strive to create an inclusive and welcoming environment for all my clients, particularly those from Hispanic/Latine and LGBTQIA+ communities.

Therapeutic Approach

My therapeutic approach is grounded in evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). I believe in a holistic, biopsychosocial model that considers the biological, psychological, and social factors influencing mental health. This model allows me to tailor interventions to the unique needs of each client, ensuring that their strengths and identities are respected and integrated into the healing process.

I specialize in working with children, adolescents, and adults, focusing on neurodevelopmental disorders and mood-related challenges. For younger and neurodivergent clients, I incorporate engaging techniques from The Incredible Years program, using tools such as puppets to model appropriate behavior and foster meaningful connections.

Specialties:

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • Intellectual Developmental Disabilities (IDD)
  • Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
  • Learning Disabilities
  • Anxiety and Mood Disorders
  • LGBTQIA+ Affirmative Therapy
  • Psychological and Autism Assessments

Experience:

With a PhD in Clinical Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology and a Master’s in Applied Behavior Analysis from National University, I have honed my skills in diverse clinical settings, including Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and UCLA’s Cultural Neuropsychology Initiative. My research has focused on integrating developmental approaches in treating anxiety in neurodivergent children and exploring the impact of risk and protective factors on depression in sexually diverse young adults.

I am passionate about empowering my clients to achieve their goals and improve their quality of life through personalized and compassionate care. Additionally, I am dedicated to advocating for individuals with disabilities, ensuring they receive the support and resources needed to thrive. Whether you are seeking support for yourself or a loved one, I am here to help guide you on your journey to wellness.
